State Road 29

A monitoring survey was conducted for the S.R. 29 roadway re-striping project, as required by the State of Florida Department of Transportation (DOT) Contract Plans. A four day pre-construction survey was provided to address the potential presence of Southern bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus), Florida sandhill crane (Grus canadensis pratenis), Big Cypress fox squirrel (Sciurus niger avicennia), Eastern indigo snake (Drymarchon corais couperi) and Audubon’s crested caracara (Polyborus plancus audubonii), which may occur and nest within or adjacent to the proposed project.

The project limits are located along S.R. 29 within Hendry and Collier counties, from Sears Road, in Hendry County, south past the Collier County line to Market Road. The road improvements include the re-striping of the existing black top. Per the Contract Plan requirements, the survey included the immediate roadway and a buffer area extending outward from the right-of-way, approximately 1,500 feet. This buffer was provided to specifically survey for Audubon’s crested caracara.
